This is Edith. Not the best great drawing of Edith, but she's better in person. I'm well aware that I'm clearer in writing than speaking in every other aspect of my life, so you'd think that I'd realize this where important people are concerned as well.

The first thing you will ever realize about Edith is that she is insanely busy. She doesn't stop. This semester alone she's taking three classes (which is 2 classes fewer than usual, which is one class more than the university recommends), serving as a facilitator and editor for a student run medical journal class, involving herself in a national student group pushing for equitable access to medicine, involving herself in ANOTHER student group researching and developing water health, purification, and education techniques for third world countries (specifically India), practicing and performing in a Traditional Chinese Dance Group meeting twice a week (woo FTD!), participating in a second dance and series of rehearsals for a separate Chinese Student Association by request, training a group of high school dancers in Chinese ribbon and fan dancing techniques, choreographing a dance for the same group using music chosen by them that was never, ever meant for ribbon dancing, and working 17 hours a week on top of that. So, if you meet her and notice that everyone tells her to slow down and take a break or calls her ridiculously busy, that's generally why. She also somehow finds time to be an awesome girlfriend and being the sweetest and most compassionate friend to all of her friends. Topping it off, she also bakes ridiculous amounts of delicious treats for work and classmates, which is an instant win in any situtation. Maybe that's why she looks so tired in the picture (actually, I may have just over emphasized the shadows under her eyes, making them look like baggy bag bags). But she's smiley! It's almost sad and worn down looking smile that I may have messed up and not captured all the subtlety of, but it's a smile nonetheless. This is why I never try to draw reallife

One of the most distinguishing features about Edith is that she doesn't let things slip by. I think that's why she's involved in so much. Before Edith and I got together, trying to get me to do anything new resulted in, "maybe" or "later." Needless to say, I didn't do a whole lot outside of the few things I did well, most of which involved sitting at my desk. This, unfortunately, drove her insane, as anyone with any real world experience knows that regardless of the intent or good will behind it, "maybe" and "later" are actually the rallying cry of the Indecisivite, an extremely common species of paranoid and paralyzed worrier, who the members of which cannot bring themselves to agree to do anything more than an hour in advance in the fear that "something might come up," which effectively stops them from ever doing anything that requires more than twenty minutes of planning. Of course, if the requested event is something they've never done before, then of course they will need years and years to prepare for every possible and infeasible wrong turn and misstep, though they will mysteriously overlook any of the most common errors that they will undoubtedly perform themselves. With these two needs coupled together, it is fairly straightforward to see that "maybe" and "later" effectively translate to "we will never do this." So, one of my greatest lessons from her has been to actually jot down a date and time instead of saying "maybe," or else it never happens. Somehow it took me another 5 months to realize that I should carry a planner around, but that's a separate story. So, anyone out there who doesn't know that? Get it through your head, you're missing out on a great, amazing time, you should consider yourself incredibly lucky if you hang out with anyone who constantly wants to try new things and run off on adventures. You have to push yourself, or else you're going to end up doing the same things and getting pushed into holes for the rest of your life. This is one of the most world-expanding and inspiring tips I can offer you. Oh, and as a corollary, don't spend all your time playing video games. That's no good either.

Like I said, she is the sweetest girl you will ever come across, and she knows people, which is something I can admit that I am HORRIBLE at. If you talk to her about anything, she'll most likely know how to help and at least be able to understand your underlying problem, which is kind of a curse when you don't want to admit that you have trouble admitting that you're doing anything wrong. I get the feeling that if she took psych that she would just breeze throug the behavioral aspects (I only took one intro psych class, so I can't really say I know what's involved). She's more constantly more compassionate, understanding, and patient than anyone else I've ever met, and it contantly blows me away.

So basically, what I'm trying to say, besides constantly beating around the bush and trying to make everyone else feel simultaneously jealous and inept, is that I'm insane for this girl. I hate to admit it, coming from that shy , self-important background, but she's got me completely wrapped around her finger and I don't want to be anywhere else. I'm beyond crazy about her, and I'm the luckiest guy in the world for being by her side through everything.

Oh, and she's real purdy too. The picture's supposed to convey that, but it's not doing nearly as good a job as the real thing.

Hello Again

So I haven't had time to touch this for several months now, but suddenly there was some surge in hits this month. I must have done something right. Yeah...

Or, maybe I did something horribly wrong, but nah, let's not think about that.

Some day, when I dig my scanner out, I'll upload things again. Some day...

184. Video: Edith and I are up late studying for midterms watching crazy German music videos from the 90s. I'll miss college.
183. Video: Edith, the darling lass pictured above, will be performing this later this semester. I'm not sure what the protocol is when you find out your girlfriend is a zombie, but I guess I'm glad to have advanced warning that she'll be eating my brains at some point.
182. Video: Women in Western Art. Pretty niftay.
181. Comic: Copper is updating again! Glee!
180. Japanese Insanity Guitar Bear Pink Japan: WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?WHAT?
179. Video: Pac Man invasion. Old, I guess, but still required viewing.
178. Comic: Piled Higher and Deeper: So awesome! Also makes me not want to go to gradschool. Though, it worked out for my dad anyway, so who knows.
177. Artist: JF Bruckner: Oh yeah, jfb is awesome too! Right, right, more artists and comics, I forget so easily...
176. Comic: Copper: Copper is my favorite webcomic. Every strip is inspiringly beautiful and bursting with imagination, but beyond that, they consistently resonate with profundity without screaming "Look at ME, aren't I profound!?" I tried to write a lot more corny praise, but just go read all of them instead, you won't be sorry. I was hoping to wait for Kazu Kibuishi to get back to it so I could scream about its return, but it's been quite a while already, so I'll just link it again once that happens.
175. Artist: Mitsui. Life must be hard when you're this awesome. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
174. Comic: The Unfeasible Adventures of Beaver and Steve. I don't actually read this often, but the toaster knob makes me want to. That sentence will make no sense as soon as they update.
173. Humor: Kyle linked me to this, but I can't imagine why. P.S. Kyle sucks.
172. Comic: Socks. Okay, Socks is also amazing. I need to read through both these soon. Yargh.
171. Comic: Minus. Leo just linked me to minus, and it is aggggghjustgoreaditIcan'tthinkofwhattowriteitisamazing.
170. Flash Game: Fancy Pants. Fancy Pants!!! Made me want to drop everything and make an awesome speedy platformer with simple but incredibly smooth smooth animation with my roommates. Who knows what they'd do, but Kyle already agreed to it. Right Kyle? Study for your midterms to signify "yes."
169. Random: Revenge of Zoom Quilt.
168. Comic: Sinfest. How could you not know about Sinfest already? :|
167. Apps: doPdf. People keep asking how to write out pdfs. If you don't own Acrobat Pro, apparently this works.
166. Humor: Then Japan puts Berkeley to shame in the flash mob arena. But c'mon, it's Japan, it's probably weird when stuff like that doesn't happen.
165. Humor: Berkeley ninja flash mob battle royale round 1 fight.
